Mr X Durairaj

Mr X Durairaj is the Chairman of Powergear Limited, Chennai, manufacturing and supplying specialised Electrical Equipments throughout the world to about 55 countries. 

Basically an Electrical Engineering graduate (1970) from the University of Madras and employed in M/s Best & Crompton for 10 years from 1970 in the field of Electrical HV Products and Projects. 

In 1980, promoted M/s Reep Industries Pvt Ltd for manufacturing Electrical Equipments required for Power Generating Station.

In 2000, acquired majority shares of M/s. Powergear Limited, which is manufacturing similar Electrical Equipments.

In 2008, built an exclusive facility at Madras Export Processing Zone – SEZ, Chennai  for manufacturing the same products required for Export. The products are working satisfactorily for years more than 55 countries across Asia, Europe and USA

In 2010, promoted a Joint Venture with M/s. Gestamp, Spain in Kolhapur, Maharashtra for manufacturing Wind Towers.

In 2010, obtained “Tamilnadu Emerging Entrepreneurs Award” from CII Business Line.

In 2012, successfully started an R&D unit which has been recognised by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt of India.

In 2013, Expanded Reep Industries Pvt Ltd and introduced various Electrical products.

In 2021, built a manufacturing facility at Ranipet and expanded 10 times the production capacity.

Mr Rajesh Durairaj

Rajesh Durairaj is the Managing Director of Powergear Limited and REEP Motors. He holds an Electrical Engineering degree. Subsequently, he has completed a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Ohio State University, USA. He has pursued a second Master’s in Management from London School of Economics and Political Science, UK (LSE).

Rajesh Durairaj has previously worked with Kimball International, Ford Motor Company in USA and short stints at Total Gas, UK including teaching Managerial Strategy and Organizational Governance at LSE.

At Powergear, he has been instrumental in expanding its presence in overseas markets and diversifying into other business activities which include Wind Towers, Particle Accelerators among other ventures. At REEP he continues to spearhead the Company’s activities in electric
vehicles.

Dr Srini Venu

Dr Srini Venu is Director, Powergear Limited. He is a Fellow in Mechanical Engineer and IIM Kozhikode alumni with 27 years of rich experience in Investment banking, Energy and Automotive Sectors in firms like Soft bank, Amararaja, Hero Motors, Carraro Group, Emerson Electric. He has a proven track record in Deal Structuring, Buy side deals, and M&A, development and execution of innovative solutions to address a variety of complex operational, performance, and reliability challenges of clean energy technologies.

His passionate areas include demonstrating results in power industry dynamics. He is blessed with superior business acumen cutting across functional domains of Strategy, Business Development in establishing new market avenues, Regulatory, Power Sales, Supply Chain, Tendering and Project Finance. He is known for reaching out to respective stakeholders to understand their issues concerns and be persistent in implementing a strategy.

So far, he has worked on setting up three Green field Global R&D Centres and one Inverter manufacturing unit till date, recruited and enhanced human capital for the aforementioned which led to the creation of a successful establishment.

He makes special efforts to collaborate with policymakers to make government policy structures more compatible with the industry. As an academician, he has submitted 22 research papers in the
domain of renewable energy (cell technology and inverter technology among others) and 4 research papers on business process re-engineering of the automotive sector.

He believes in continuously interacting with students and has over 300 hour of teaching experience
as visiting faculty in the areas of strategic management, and project management. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of IMCI Hyderabad Chapter, Chairman E-Mobility CII, TN, Co. Chairman Energy Committee FTCCI.
